January will see the return of one of Monte-Carlo’s most cherished events, but this time promises to be on a grander scale than ever before.

From 14-24 January 2016, the Chapiteau de Fontvieille will play host to the 40th edition of the Monte-Carlo International Circus Festival, with H.S.H. Princess Stephanie, and her organising committee celebrating the occasion by introducing an unusual twist to proceedings.

To commemorate 40 years of the festival, this year’s show will feature some of the most talented acts to have won the respected Clown d’Or award during the extravaganza’s recent history.

Last year’s show got off to a tragic start when Kevin Ferrari, 24, of Motor-cycling act Flic-Flac Moto X, died on the eve of the circus’ opening night after a stunt went horrifically wrong.

In the true spirit of the circus world, the show went on in honour of the young Italian who lost his life, and the celebrated spectacle will be hoping to wow the Principality once more in 2016, in a special anniversary show.

Returning to this year’s globally-broadcast event will be world-renowned funambulist, ‘The Voljanski”, the famous Rastelli musical clowns and distinguished horse trainer Flavio Togni (a man who has won more awards at the festival than any other act) and his partner Alexis Gruss.

As well as a star-studded line-up, the 40th anniversary show boasts an extended arena, with the show set to spill out into the town itself as a parade of artists will make the trip from Fontvieille up to the Place du Palais for a special afternoon show on Saturday 16 January.

Ticket costs vary depending on which show you wish to see, but prices start from 10 euros for children, graduating up to 190 euros for a seat at the Golden Gala 40th festival on Tuesday 19 January.

If that’s not enough to satisfy your entertainment cravings, the festival will once again be followed by its sister show, the New Generation; a circus competition for young artists that will be held from 30-31 January.

International acts including acrobats, clowns and animals will all compete for the Gold Junior, Silver Junior and Bronze Junior awards, with the young jury set to be presided over by H.S.H Princess Stephanie’s daughter, Pauline.
