On Sunday March 13th, the principality will once again turn pink thanks to what has become one of the landmark events of the Monegasque year; Pink Ribbon Monaco 5km walk.
Although Pink Ribbon is a worldwide campaign and has been raising money across the globe for years, Pink Ribbon Monaco is an independent charity that focuses it’s work on the principality and surrounding areas, raising awareness about their ongoing fight against breast cancer.
The 100% non-profit organisation was founded in spring 2011 and events over the past five years, ranging from paddle boarding to poker, have helped the educate women in the importance of healthy lifestyle and early detection regarding this merciless disease, which comprises 16% of all female cancers.
In tandem with the Centre Hospitalier Princesse Grace, Pink Ribbon Monaco’s goal is to create an environment where women who have found a lump in their breast do not have to wait too long to receive medical attention and can gain access to new and increasingly safer screening methods.
In line with the wishes of the eco-conscious HSH Prince Albert II, this 5th anniversary year of the event, will see all pink balloons replaced with a pink umbrella, while the plastic bags distributed in previous years will be replaced with recycled and reusable cotton bags.
So, this Sunday grab your tutus, hats and wigs and head to down to Port Hercule with hundreds of others to be part of a truly inclusive event. And remember – there’s no such thing as too much pink!
